Autism is a developmental disorder that appears in the first 3 years of life, and affects the brain’s normal development of social and communication skills. Autism is also a physical condition linked to abnormal biology and chemistry in the brain. The exact causes of these abnormalities remain unknown, but this is a very active area of research. There are probably a combination of factors that lead to autism.
Thank you to those of you who support Autism/Aspbergers Syndrome. These children need our help, especially children at the upper end of the Aspbergers Spectrum. I speak from personal experience when I say that these children are fairly independent and have other hurdles while foraging through the general population. These kids are not as needy as most Autistic kids but still need the IEP support. Most times, through the school system, these children DO NOT get the support they so need to be productive and fully independent individuals in society. So, as a parent of an IEP child, you have to live by your gut and advocate for your child in the school system because NO ONE is going to do it for you, unfortunately.
